Bike Race report

Ellen, Jane, Jose, and I had a great time at the Dunnigan Hills Bike race yesterday.  Jose finished 18th in a large field of pro/1/2s,  Jane finished 16th in her pro1/2 field 30-40, Ellen finished 9th out of 10 in the women's 30+ group and I finished 14th out of 36 in the 45+ cat 5 field.  Jose and Jane did 88 miles and Ellen and I did 43 miles.  There were just over 900 bike racers!  It was really fun.

Saturday 5:30am. Lake Paradise

All are invited for a early morning bike ride to Lake Paradise on Saturday July 10, 2010. Plan on gathering at the Looby's house (1818 McComb) around 5:25 am. The route will cross Rt 45 at McDonalds and then circle the lake and return by reversing the route. If traffic is low and roads appear save, a possible add-on may be to go on to nearby Lake Mattoon.

Roads were checked a week ago, and all were passable.

National 24 Hour Challenge

As some of you may know, Keith Wolcott and Keith Cox (whom I like to call Keith squared) are both competing in the national 24 hour challenge in Middleville, MI.

Marie Cox sent this photo to show how well they are doing. Here they are giving a thumbs up after completing 169 miles.

Saturday Bike Ride

On Saturday, May 29th plans are in the works for a moderate pace 12-16 mph. 50 mile or so bike ride. The route would be to the East of Charleston towards Westfield, on Rt 17. lunch/water stop at the Oilfield restaurant. Then cross RT130 and the Embarras river and head back to Charleston. The route features: small towns, woods, trees and rolling country scenery.

The ride will leave from my house at 8:00 am. at 1818 McComb, Charleston. Please let me know/post if interested. My cell 259-2267

Thanks, John L.

Saturday 7:00. Keith Cox will be in town! We will do 50-70 miles at most likely a pretty fast pace. See above for an alternate ride.

Friday 8:00

Great ride today Milt.  We hope that you can continue to join us.

Saturday - Long Ride in the works

Lisa and Sheila asked us to post the following.

Plans are in the works for riding to Champaign and back. Anyone interested? And if so, suggestions for what time to leave? Looks like the weather will cooperate that day. The good news is that the route is pretty flat and will be nice for the first century of the season for some of us. It makes sense to leave from the north side of town, possible from Lisa and Sheila's home at 1314 Monroe.

Keith and Ellen are interested

We are scheduled for 8:00 at Lisa and Sheila's.

Friday Biking, 9:00

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Monday, May 17, 2010

Tuesday 9:00. This is time trial day!

We start the 8.5 mile time trial at the top of Hayes hill and finish there.  If you are not interested in the time trial, meet at the top of Hayes at 9:30 (Andrew- we could meet you at 9:40).

Bill and Andrew-  Since you both want an earlier time, we will not be offended if you two ride earlier this week until the rest of us move to an earlier time next week.

Bill-  Thanks for the pump info.  We ordered one.

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Monday 9:00-There are a few drips out there, but Ellen and I are going at 9:00.

The rain should be done by 9:00 and Andrew and Todd need the earlier time.  Bill, if you want to ride at about 10:40 when we get back, I'll go out with you.

Can we stick to 9:00 until after the 25th so Todd can still join us and then we can go to an early time?

Saturday, May 15, 2010

We don't plan to ride the Monticello ride tomorrow because of the possible rain.

Todd- you're the only one that we know might interested in riding on Sunday.  What time would you like to go? Anyone else interested?

Weekend Biking

The weather looks good so Ellen wants to do her first century this year on Saturday.  The wind does not look too bad, so we will start about 6:00 and do loops.  Thus anyone can join us for just about any distance that you are interested in.  After we talk to today's riders, we'll post times that we will be back at our house, but roughly every couple of hours.

We'll plan on being back at our house (1041 Westgate) at 9:00 and then again at 11:00.

On Sunday, we might do the ride at http://www.monticellolions.org/lions-bike-ride.php depending on the predicted rain.

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Thursday 9:00 with a backup time of 2:00 in case of rain.

I am hopeful that we will be ahead of the rain this morning.  We are only expecting Andrew and Todd so far (and now Bill).

Wednesday biking cancelled.

Monday, May 10, 2010

Tuesday 9:00. It looks like the rain is not an issue so we'll see you at 9:00.

We will start with an 8.5 mile time trial and then do 20 or so miles.  If you want to skip the time trial, join us at 9:30 at the top of Hayes hill.  Possible rain could alter this schedule so check back here in the morning.

Sunday, May 9, 2010

Monday 9:00

We've got a nice group going with Andrew, Todd, Bill, Ellen and me riding.  We'll meet at my home and pick up Andrew on the way at 9:10.

Friday, May 7, 2010

Weekend Biking

Ellen and I cannot bike on Saturday until 1:00 so that is the plan with the usual distance of 27-30 miles (golf course route), but that is entirely flexible.

On Sunday, Todd, Ellen, and I plan to bike at 8:00.  The low for Saturday night is 36 and the high for Sunday is 62 so it will be cool.  I think Ellen wants to go long so we will make a second lap to get 50-70 miles.  If anyone wants to join us on the second lap that will work and will probably be at around 9:45.

We hope that you can join us, but let us know so we don't change plans at the last minute and miss you.
