Bike Ride! Tuesday, April 1, 2014

This bike ride is dependent upon signing up to go on the ride. The ride will be a no drop easy/beginner bike ride, on a route to the South West of Charleston known as the Gun Club route. Meet at the entrance to the West Gate subdivision to leave at 6:00 pm.  The pace will be in the 10-15 mph range, distance 8-10 miles. To sign up - contact me at jclooby@gmail.com.  Cut off time for signing up is 4:00 on Tuesday afternoon.  Bring a water bottle and helmet!

Leaving from Westgate at 1:00 pm. Destination - Lerna IL. moderate pace, no drop. This ride is approximately 20 miles long, with longer or shorter options.  Hopefully, around 60 degrees, with winds from the South. New riders are always welcome. New riders please bring a helmet and water bottle.

Beginner Bike Rides - April 2014

I am planning several beginner/moderate pace bike rides for the month of April. If you are interested please contact me at: jclooby@gmail.com.  These rides will be in a small group setting, and we will cover the topics of: bicycle safety, traffic safety, gear shifting, the dynamics of riding in a group, and having fun outdoors with riding a bicycle. Easy/beginner pace,  10 miles, No drop.  Planning on the Gun club route. Leaving from Westgate subdivision at 5:00pm.  Dress accordingly.

The 2014 cycling season has reopened!  Moderate pace, no drop, leaving from West Gate. Going SW exact route TBD.  Should be back before dark.

Announcing the Prairie Pedal Bike Ride

Sunday, September 29, 2013 in Decatur IL.

Event Start times:

7:00 am – 9:00 am for the 40 and 62 mile rides

7:00-10:00 am for the 20 mile ride

Lunch begins at 10:30 am

"Prairie Pedal is an annual fundraising event for Macon County Conservation Foundation held in the fall. All proceeds support the conservation of natural areas and wildlife diversity in Macon County.

Enjoy the 62 mile, 40 mile, or 20 mile ride through the quiet roads of Macon County countryside and have a chance to discover the vibrant prairie grasses, wildflowers, and diverse wildlife as we ride for restoration! After the ride join the Macon County Conservation Foundation for lunch with chili (vegetarian option) and an assortment of refreshments. All routes begin and end at the Rock Springs Conservation Area, 3939 Nearing Lane, Decatur, IL"

Bike Ride! Monday, September 23, 2013 @ 5:00pm

Moderate pace, 10.5 +- miles.  Some mild rolling hills and nice country scenery. Additional miles if wanted. This route will be to the South and little West of Charleston, and is known as the "Gun Club" route. We will be leaving from West Gate subdivision.

Please bring at least one water bottle.

Announcing a Bike Ride on Saturday September 14, 2013

The annual Bob Galloway bike ride will be held this Saturday in Arthur Illinois. Meet near the registration tables. Plan on arriving in Arthur and completing registration to be able to leave a little after 9:00 or so for the 42 mile route.     

Saturday rides

Saturday, September 7 - 7:30 a.m. duathlon course; 9:00 a.m. western course (golf course, McDonalds, Lake Paradise).  Meet at Westgate for both rides.

Saturday ride to Arthur

Leaving Westgate at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, destination - the Mennonite Relief Auction in Arthur.  It's about 30 miles to Arthur.  Food, drink, and restrooms available at the auction.

A weekly ride each Monday evening at 5:30 pm. on the local duathlon course.  Leaving from Westgate at 5:30 pm. This is a hilly route 20 miles long.

Monday evening ride

Meet at Westgate at 5:30 to do the duathlon course (hilly 20 miles).

Sunday morning 7:00 ride.

Meet at the fair grounds.  Easy pace 20 miles north to Bushton.

Wednesday Evening Ride

Beautiful day for a bike ride!  20 mile ride leaving at 5:30 from Jackson Avenue Coffee.  Easy pace.

Sunday 10:00 Bike Ride

Meet at the fair grounds by the Lincoln-Douglas Debate museum.  Going to Humbolt which is about 30 miles round trip.

WEDNESDAY EVENING RIDE

Evening ride leaving at 5:30 from Jackson Avenue Coffee.  Route to be determined.  15 mile ride or so at 10-12 mph.

MONDAY EVENING RIDE

Ride at 5:30 meeting at Jackson Ave Coffee. Heading up 14th street, north for an easy paced 15 miles.
